‘Remarkable’ spring conditions continue

MOUNT Franklin Road has been closed after a 30cm dumping of snow over the past 24 hours.

Regional Manager of National Parks and Catchments Brett McNamara says it’s “remarkable” to see snow at this time of year.

“On Friday our rangers were on standby for fire, now on Monday we are closing mountain roads due to snow,” he says. Snow at Mount Franklin 2

“This snowfall highlights how the weather in the mountains can change so rapidly and the importance of being prepared when venturing into Canberra’s hinterlands, including paying particular attention to predicted weather forecasts.

“I urge people to respect this road closure, as the conditions on Mount Franklin Road are
treacherous given the overall conditions.”

Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs have been erected to alert people of the Mount Franklin Road closure.

Motorists are also cautioned to take care when driving on wet roads, following heavy rain over the past day.
