THE Sydney Dance Company continues apace, with its touring production, “Interplay.”
Described by one critic as “super sleek and sexy,” the production gives the lie to any perception that triple bills are dull, with exciting and totally different creations by three choreographers.
The artistic director of the company, Rafael Bonachela, continues his love affair with classical music, using a mixture of compositions by Nick Wales and JS Bach in his work. “2 in D minor.” Characteristically, he is happy to have musicians performing onstage dancers.
The second work in the evening, “Raw Models,” choreographed by Italian choreographer, Jacopo Godani, shows finely tuned bodies performing in a “black box.”
Finally, in “L’Chaim”, choreographer Gideon Obarzanek, who had to step in last night when his actor-writer Dave Woods became ill, pays tribute to the old Yiddish imperative to let go and dance.
“Interplay,” Sydney Dance Company at the Canberra Theatre, 12:30 PM and 7.30 PM today and 7:30 PM tomorrow, bookings to 6275 2700 and Canberratheatrecentre.com.au
