Arrested after chase

A CAR chase through Wanniassa this morning has lead to the arrest of a 24-year-old Queanbeyan man.

Police were patrolling Wanniassa at 3.45am when they spotted two cars exiting a car park on Denigan Street at high speed.

Despite police activating their sirens to stop the two cars, they continued to accelerate away from the police.

Police said at the intersection of Castleton Crescent and Bugden Avenue, one of the cars, a silver Honda Prelude, lost control and mounted a gutter stopping in the garden of a residential home.

The other car, a white Hyundai Excel, left the area.

Police checks found the silver Honda Prelude was stolen from Phillip.

The second car was later found, burnt out in Karabar, Queanbeyan.

Police said the driver and passenger of the Honda Prelude were taken into custody with the passenger later released without charge.

The 24-year-old driver was charged with driving while disqualified, driving a motor vehicle without consent, going equipped for theft and not stopping a vehicle if requested/signaled by police.

The man will attend the ACT Magistrate’s Court later today.
