Care breach sparks review

THE residential placement of five children, who were in the care of the Territory, has potentially breached the Children and Young People Act 2008.

The ACT Government, which only recently learnt of the potential breach,  has now commissioned an immediate independent review into the circumstances that saw the Care and Protection Services use a service provider between July and August, to undertake the out of home-care placements for five children.

Up until August, the provider had been engaged intermittently over 15 months by Care and Protection for transport and supervised contact services. According to the ACT Government, those services were not the subject of the potential breach.

The Government has instructed the directorate to suspend the service provider and arrange independent reviews of all placements of children currently in the care of the Territory.
