ACT households earn $30k extra: report

THE average ACT household earns over $30,000 more each year than the rest of the country, according to a report issued today.

The Roy Morgan State of the Nation – Focus on the ACT report covered the first year of the Gallagher Labor Government and revealed that the average household in the ACT earns $127,500 compared to a national average of $91,000.

The report also found there are double the number of degree educated people in the ACT (52 per cent compared to 26.4 per cent nationally), the ACT has just over half the unemployment rate (5.3 per cent compared to 9 per cent), and business confidence in the territory is over 10 points higher than the national average (123.4 compared to 110.2).

Meanwhile, 62.5 per cent of Canberrans believe that homosexual couples should be allowed to adopt children compared to 52.9 per cent nationally, and less Canberrans think crime is a growing problem within the community (33.8 per cent compared to 41 per cent).
