We’re a creative bunch!

CREATIVE, is how best users of LinkedIn, the world’s biggest professional network, describe themselves according to a recently released study from the website.

LinkedIn’s 2011 list of the top 10 terms overused by professionals in Australia is topped with “creative”, followed by “extensive experience”, “effective”, “track record”, “motivated”, “innovative”, “communication skills”, “wide range”, “problem solving” and “dynamic”.

“Overused words and phrases like ‘Creative’, ‘Extensive Experience’ and ‘Effective’ don’t necessarily reflect your unique professional accomplishments and experiences and do nothing to help you stand out amongst your fellow professionals,” said Sally-Anne Blanshard, career coach and director of Nourish Coaching.

LinkedIn’s 2010 study found the most overused buzzwords in Australia, were: “extensive experience”; “innovative”; and “motivated”.

Since last year’s study, LinkedIn’s global membership has grown from 85 million to more than 135 million members.

The 2011 number one buzzwords for countries that LinkedIn fielded the study in, included: “creative”: Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States; “multinational”: Brazil; “dynamic”: France; “effective”: India; “problem solving”: Italy; “motivated”: Ireland; “managerial”: Spain; and “track record”: Singapore.

“In the lead up to the New Year, you should take the time to makeover your profile with words and language that give concrete examples of your professional achievements, attributes and capabilities that are specific to you,” said Blanshard.
