Heather Shakespeare… honoured.
THE remarkable community contribution of Arthur and Heather Shakespeare is to be remembered tomorrow lunchtime with the opening of a city square named in honour of them.

The Heather and Arthur Shakespeare Square, located at 15 London Circuit, City West,  (between University Avenue and Farrell Place, diagonally opposite the police station), will be officially opened by Deputy Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

Arthur Thomas Shakespeare (1897-1975), was journalist and newspaper editor, best known for founding the  “The Canberra Times”. He served on the executive of more than 40 organisations including the ACT Advisory Council, ACT Scouts and the Canberra and District Historical Society as well as the council of the Australian National University, the Canberra Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, the Young Men’s Christian Association, the Eisteddfod Association and the Committee on Cultural Development.

Descendants of Arthur and Heather Shakespeare will also be in attendance, as will members of Scouts ACT.
