THE Director of the ACT Health Protection Service, John Woollard, is urging Canberra residents to check their refrigerators following a recall of smallgoods contaminated with Listeria.

Tibaldi Australasia Pty Ltd in association with ALDI supermarkets is recalling ALDI Berg Strassburg and ALDI Berg Skinless Hotdogs from all ALDI stores in the ACT, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria after the products were found to be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

“Listeria can cause illness in pregnant women and their unborn children, the elderly and people with poor immune function,” John said.

“Consumers should check their refrigerators to ensure they do not have these products. Any contaminated smallgoods should not be consumed, and may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

The recalled products are:

  • ALDI Berg Strassburg 500g in vacuum packs, all use by dates up to and including 8 February 2015 and
  • ALDI Berg Skinless Hotdogs, 375g per 6 in vacuum packs, all use by dates up to and including 16 January 2015.

Pregnant women, the immune-compromised, the elderly and young children should take particular care to not consume the recalled smallgoods.

“Anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice immediately,” Mr Woollard concluded.
