Events for Engineering Week 2015

ENGINEERS Australia, Canberra Division, will present a range of events during the 2015 Engineering Week from August 3-7. A key feature will be a ‘warts and all’ discussion of Sir John Monash the engineer, the soldier and the man.

Events in the 2015 Australian Engineering Week in Canberra:

  • Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Screening of The Humanitarian Engineer – Monday 3 August, 5.30pm

    The documentary The Humanitarian Engineer by Sheena Ong is a celebration of engineering, its diversity and its power to enrich the human condition. This special screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Alexandra Ford, Australian Volunteers for International Development; Tony Marx EWB volunteer recently return from Cambodia and Neil Greet, Director of Collaborative Outcomes. This event is free of charge and being held at Engineering House, Barton.

  • Lessons in Leadership: The Life of Sir John Monash – Tuesday 4 August, 6.00pm

    To coincide with the Centenary of WW1 this guest lecture will explore the life and career of Sir John Monash. John Monash was a civil engineer and lawyer, he is famed with introducing reinforced concrete to Australia, revolutionising electricity in Australia and as Commander of Australian Corps during WW1 was credited by many with shortening the war by several months and saving thousands of lives. Rolfe Hartley Past National President of Engineers Australia will present this ‘warts and all’ discussion. This event is being held at ADFA and free of charge. Bookings essential

  • Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Fundraising Trivia Night – Thursday 6 August, 6.30pm

    This annual trivia night raises important funds for humanitarian engineering work overseas as well as providing resources for the EWB outreach program in the ACT and regional NSW.

  • Engineering Games – Friday 7 August, 5.30pm

    Lively competitions for participants aged from junior primary through to university who build mousetrap racers, spaghetti bridges, straw towers, robo greyhounds and hovercrafts from CDs. Ingenuity at play across seven different games. This evening is a festival of creativity and excitement as more than 300 participants test the strength, speed and robustness of their creation. The annual Engineering Games has been a highlight of Engineering Week for the school students of Canberra for over 25 years.
