Magpies City Club busted for 11 underage patrons

police

ACT Policing identified 11 underage persons in a licensed establishment during a multi-agency Liquor Licensing inspection on Sunday (June 28).

Between 7.30pm and 9.30pm, ACT Policing Regional Targeting Team members and partner agencies inspected the Magpies City Club on Bunda Street, City, after information was received that the adult-only venue was hosting a function advertised as an ‘all-ages’ event. As an adult-only venue, young persons are only allowed to attend if under the immediate care of a parent or guardian.

During the inspection, ACT Policing identified 11 young people, under the age of 18-years-old, who were not in the care of a parent or guardian. The details of the young persons were taken and police contacted their parents and guardians to ensure their safe departure from the venue.

Access Canberra officers from WorkSafe ACT, Liquor Compliance, Environment Protection and the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission also participated in the operation.

As a result, the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission identified issues with potential breaches of the Gaming Machine Act in relation to persons not being club members and guests not being signed in and accompanied by the member. These are now the subject of ongoing investigations by the Commission. WorkSafe ACT documented a number of safety issues as a result of the operation and provided these to the club for rectification.

Police are now in the process of preparing a brief of evidence against the Magpies City Club for offences of under the Liquor Act (2010) which will be placed before the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

What an exaggeration ,no underage were caught with alcohol.
All breath tested and all underage blew zero and all attendees were wristbanded to identify as underage and were not given any alcohol for the duration of event..Your media story has not painted the whole true story .From what I understand this is one of the last venues that allow all age events and it is a shame this story was not covered better as with no venues available for underage it will further make larger problems for ACT policing as It will encourage more private house parties with underage getting out of control if they do not allow these events to be held at Magpies any longer.
