CANBERRA has been the setting for several movies nominated in the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, to be announced in December.

The awards celebrate Australia’s highest achievements in film and television over the past year, and ACT government-funded films have featured in several nominations.

Maggie Naouri has been nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Feature Film for her performance in “Joe Cinque’s Consolation”, now screening in theatres nationally. It was filmed in Canberra in 2015 by Sotiris Dounoukos.

The second season of political thriller “The Code”, produced by Playmaker Media for ABC TV, received three nominations including Best Television Drama Series. Other nominations for the series include Best Direction for Shawn Seet and Best Lead Actor for Ashley Zukerman.

And Damon Herriman received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role on “Secret City”, a political drama produced by Matchbox Pictures for Foxtel that filmed in multiple locations across Canberra.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards will be announced during a televised ceremony in Sydney on December 7.
