TWO Australian Defence Force Chinook helicopters will fly over the Australian War Memorial just after 10 am on Tuesday April 19.
“The two helicopters are flying over Canberra to mark the handover of one of the helicopters – the CH-47D Chinook – to the Australian War Memorial,” a spokesperson said.
“The transfer of the CH-47D Chinook from the Australian Defence Force is the largest addition to the Australian War Memorial’s National Collection this decade.
“The CH-47D Chinook, which saw active service in Afghanistan, will conduct a low level flyover over the Memorial’s Commemorative Area and Dome, with its modern counterpart the CH-47 F- Model Chinook. The CH-47 D-Model represents the Australian Army’s latest Medium Lift Helicopter capability.
“The two aircraft will then travel to the official handover ceremony at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
“Flemington Road will also be closed near Exhibition Park from approximately 10.20 until 10.35am.”
