A 12-HOUR “Band-a-Thon” featuring more than 100 students will be one of the star attractions at Telopea Park School’s La Grande Fête on Saturday, November 5.
The ensemble, which comprises members from the school’s three bands, will play movie favourites, classics and pop songs, from 7am to 7pm with the gold-coin entry fee directed to the students’ fundraising efforts to support their 2017 tour of France, Belgium and the UK.
But as band teacher Rob Clements says there’s a bigger purpose.
“With the centenary of the Battle of Pozieres approaching, one-third of money raised will go towards a new school at Pozieres in France – the plan is to build a school with seven classrooms, an assembly hall and toilets that don’t require a trip through snow.
“On the 2017 tour, the band will be performing a tribute to Australia’s Black Diggers, featuring a track composed especially by Canberra composer and pianist Sally Greenaway.”
La Grande Fête, 2.30pm to 7pm, on Saturday, November 5.
