Bonus for race winners

RACE winners at Thoroughbred Park will receive a bonus $5000 as of September 1 thanks to a new scheme introduced by Canberra Racing Club.

CanBOBS (Canberra breeders and owners bonus scheme) will be available for eligible race horse owners and will see them gain the bonus additional bonus of $4,625 on top of the race prize money. The winning trainer will receive $250 and the Australian Jockeys Association $125 from the $5,000 bonus.

Canberra Racing Club chairman Tim Olive said CanBOBS will deliver significantly greater returns to eligible owners and therefore boost the local and regional racing industry.

“We anticipate CanBOBS will deliver improved revenue to the Club through wagering as a result of stronger race fields and form lines,” he said.

Canberra Racing Club CEO Peter Stubbs said he was looking forward to the introduction of CanBOBS which he has been working on for some time.

“I look forward to an increase in the quality of racing and I hope that CanBOBS will deliver wider industry and community benefits over time such as improved wagering turnover, an expansion of the number of horses in training, increased employment in the racing industry and a higher profile for Canberra racing,” he said.

Horses eligible for the Racing NSW BOBS scheme will also be eligible for the Canberra scheme. Also eligible are paid up, two-year-old horses in 2010/11 season and three-year-old in 2011/12.
