Acton arts residency program open

PLAYING Field Studio is looking for Canberra artists to participate in its 2012 Artist in Residency Program.

The idea is to establish pathways for the professional development of artists and members of the community wishing to play, explore and develop their art form within the studio’s aims and objectives.

The residency is open to artists who work in film, music, performing arts, photography, visual art, digital media or art therapies and will provide an artist with seven days’ of access to the Playing Field Studio, from October 8-14.

The applicant will also receive a one-off payment of $750 to cover materials and resources for the project, which will conclude with the artist/s giving a public presentation of the work, whether as a work in progress or a finished product, on Sunday, October 14.

The Studio is an intimate, multi-purpose arts studio, located in Acton, that aims to explore and develop links between creativity and well being in the community, focusing on challenged and disadvantaged members of the community who do not have access to the creative arts.

Playing Field Studio located on Kingsley Street, Civic and offers community art workshops, artist residencies, professional development opportunities for artists and affordable studio hire for arts organisations.

The studio recognises the important role the arts play in enhancing the well being of individuals and provides creative opportunities for members of the community including migrants, refugees, people with mental illness and youth, who may not have access to mainstream artistic programs.

It comprises a 8.2m x 8.2m tarquet studio space, tables, chairs, carpets, storage, kitchenette, access to a small office and toilets and change rooms.

Ali Clinch, President of Playing Field Studio says “the residency is open to everyone in the ACT involved in the creative arts, whether they are a professional artist or do art as a hobby.”

She further states “the aim of the residency is to support the development of new work by local artists on themes and topics that are relevant to the
local community”.

Applications are now open and close on Friday, August 24. For more information about the residency or an application form contact 0402 597 959 or playingfieldstudio@gmail.com
