THE Front Gallery and Cafe are packing seven years worth of music and art into seven nights to celebrate the artistic venue’s seventh birthday.
Starting Saturday, June 30, each night will include performances from local and interstate bands and a collaborative community art exhibition.
The Front started as an old bakery but was refurbished by local artist Paul Jamieson and opened to the local community on July 1, 2005.
“Canberra was lacking in art and music spaces and I wanted a space to exhibit my own work, and give other artists an avenue to exhibit their own work,” says Jamieson.
As part of the week-long birthday celebrations musicians including Jake Nauta, Ainslie Wills, Tom Dickins, Henry Fraser, Ungus Ungus Ungus, Hudson Arc, Alanna & Alicia, and Rafe Morris will perform.
Jamieson says the celebration is to thank all who have helped make The Front what it is today, because “at the end of the day, it’s the staff, clientele and artists that make The Front”.
