CANBERRA contemporary artist Stewart McDonald says he draws his inspiration for his art from his daughter. “I love the energy and colour in a child’s artwork and their ability to create instant marks without thinking where their creativity leads to,” he says.
McDonald, an abstract artist now based in Canberra but who trained at the Tasmanian School of Art in Hobart, works in painting, drawing, mixed media and printmaking. His work relies on the application of various medium including ink, acrylic, collage which he says are ‘intuitively’ constructed by dynamic units of pattern and linked by vibrant colour and texture.
Now McDonald is showing a new range of work at the Cork Street Café & Gallery in Gundaroo, created in a range of various mediums to find “that child-like place in your head…painting what you see and feel.”
Stewart McDonald’s exhibition at the Cork Street Café & Gallery, Cork Street Gundaroo, from July 18.
