NEWS is that two members of the Canberra Photographic Society, amateur snappers Brian Jones and Helen McFadden, have recently been recognised in the 6th Annual Photography Masters Cup; an international photo-show which this year received 8,521 entries.
The live online ceremony webcast on February 17, Sydney time, was “attended” by photography fans in 86 countries who logged on to see the climax of this important international event for colour photography.
Jones won second place, Merit of Excellence, in the Wildlife Category with his photograph “Barbary Macaque” and had a further four photographs nominated in the categories Children of the World, Fine Art, People and Still Life. McFadden received six nominations, three in the Nature category and three in the Wildlife category.
Both were praised by the awards creative director, Basil O’Brien, for their “exceptional images that represent contemporary colour photography at its finest.”
Both photographers are keen members of the local society. McFadden said “it is a real honour for Brian and me to have our work recognised by an international panel of judges and to be selected from so many entries. The regular activities of the CPS have helped us grow as photographers by providing a forum for learning about photography and developing our work.”
The Annual Photography Masters Cup awards international Jury included captains of the industry from Phillips de Pury & Company in New York; Kunst Licht Gallery, Shanghai; XPO Gallery, Paris; Tasveer Galleries, India; BFN, Netherlands; to BBH in London, who awarded 239 title awards in 18 categories.
