Police foil armed robbery

POLICE officers caught an armed robber before he had left the scene of the crime this morning, thanks to a quick-thinking store attendant.

Police afp copsA 52-year-old man was arrested at about 4am this morning after he allegedly threatened the attendant at the Caltex Service Station in Braddon, demanding cash and cigarettes.

According to police, the staff member hit a duress alarm and City Patrol officers were at the service station within minutes, allowing them to take the man into custody before he had left the service station.

The man was charged with aggravated robbery and will face ACT Magistrates Court later today.
