Pursuit ends in car trouble

A 23-year-old Charnwood man was arrested in the early hours of this morning after the stolen car he was driving broke down during a police chase.

Police attempted to pull over a Toyota Hilux that had been reported stolen at about 4am today, after they noticed it driving erratically through Curtin.

The driver, who was later found to be on parole, accelerated away and police broke off the chase shortly afterwards.

Officers spotted the Hilux again five minutes later in Wanniassa and gave chase a second time, arresting the driver five minutes later in Garran when the stolen truck broke down.

The driver will face ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with breaching parole, driving a stolen motor vehicle and various traffic offences.

Any witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or online atwww.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
