YOU could hardly move in Civic on the weekend, with crowd numbers exceeding 250,000 according to the latest calculations.
ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs Joy Burch has praised the National Multicultural Festival organisers and the Canberra community for making the weekend’s celebrations a resounding success, with record crowds and no major incidents.
When she says incidents, the minister meant unpleasant incidents, not theatrically-staged incidents, although there were plenty of those, with the Indigenous Showcase on Saturday a huge success and the performance of Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu described to “CityNews” by one bystander as “a real treat.”
“It is testament to our inclusive and welcoming community that we can have more than 100 ethnic communities side by side in the heart of our city and have a good time,” Ms Burch said.
