Woman accosted and robbed at ATM

PoliceA WOMAN was accosted and robbed after withdrawing money from a Commonwealth Bank in Manuka last night.

Around 6.35pm a woman had withdrawn money from the Commonwealth Bank ATM on Bougainville Street when she was accosted by a man who snatched her purse and ran to a car parked nearby. Two men are suspected to be involved. The victim was unhurt.

The fleeing vehicle is believed to be a blue four-door sedan, (possibly a Hyundai), with NSW number plates (black on yellow).

The first offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 185cm (6’) tall, of athletic build, clean shaven with medium dark hair. He was wearing a jacket with a fluorescent orange torso, dark sleeves and navy coloured pants.

The second offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, 160cm (5’3”) tall, of medium build, pale round face with a thin brown beard. He was wearing a cream-coloured hooded jacket with a hatched pale grey/beige pattern.

Officer-in-charge of crime prevention Harry Hains said that it’s important to be vigilant when withdrawing money from an ATM and to be prepared to terminate the transaction and walk away.

Anyone who saw the offenders or the blue four-door sedan around Bougainville Street at the time of the offence is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au.
