THERE’S good news from QL2 Dance’s “Quantum Leap” ensemble.
Eight of its best and brightest have been selected and are on their way to Renmark, Adelaide for Ausdance’s national week-long intensive dance event, The Australian Youth Dance Festival.
The same group of dancers will represent Canberra later this year in Bangkok and then at the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow.
Aged 16-19, they have worked with choreographer James Batchelor to create “Cinders”, which incorporates live dance, screen projection and an original score by Melbourne composer, Morgan Hickinbotham.
The work will be presented in a showcase in Renmark, then an expanded version will appear in July at Canberra Playhouse as part of QL2 Dance’s season “Boundless”.
“Cinders” was created when they worked for two weeks full time in January with Batchelor, who is now an award-winning independent dancemaker based in Melbourne, but who started out in contemporary dance 13 years ago with Quantum Leap.
QL2 Artistic Director Ruth Osborne says, “We believe dance is much more than cool moves and learning steps.”
