Are your child restraints secure?

THE NRMA is offering free checks and refitting of car child restraints.

The motoring organisation says there’s a 70% likelihood that a child under 7 is travelling in an unsecured restraint or booster and they’re seven times more likely to be hurt in a crash or even in heavy braking.

The NRMA Tuggeranong and Majura Park MotorServes is offering to help.

On January 16 the NRMA asks families to bring their car into the Tuggeranong store on the corner of Soward Way and Athllon Drive, Tuggeranong; or the Majura Park Store, 3/1A Catalina Drive, Majura Park.

NRMA experts will check your child restraint and, where necessary, refit the device for optimum safety at no cost.

Call 1300 880 294 to make an appointment.

Families are invited to enjoy free coffee and cake while they wait to have their restraint checked.

NRMA’s Senior Policy Advisor, Dimitra Vlahomitros, said that even the most highly-rated child restraint or booster seat was compromised if fitted incorrectly.

“We know that around seven in 10 children are inadvertently placed in harm’s way because the safety devices designed to save them aren’t properly secured,” Dimitra said.

“Whether you’re an NRMA Member or not, we are placing our MotorServes at your disposal in order to protect the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community.”
