THE Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s second Llewellyn concert for 2015 will open a door into the unique sonic imagination of Australian composer Matthew Hindson, whose driving rhythms and dynamic energy invigorate and revitalise audiences, not least in Canberra, where Hindson is quite a favourite.
Nicholas Milton will take up the both to conduct the works, beginning with Hinson’s composition ‘Boom Box’, followed by Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous interpretation of the legendary story of Scheherazade.
This demanding concerto’s virtuosity and soulful intensity, the orchestra says, as well as thundering octave passages, constitute one of the most profound challenges for performers.
