Your chance to join a Capital Metro reference group!

SIMON Corbell says people interested in becoming members of a community or business reference group for the Capital Metro project are now able to nominate for the position.

“Establishment of the Capital Metro reference groups provides a great opportunity for community and business leaders along the light rail corridor to get involved with the project team and provide feedback about the best way to deliver this vital infrastructure project for the ACT,” Simon said.

“The reference groups will allow Capital Metro to hear what our communities and businesses are saying about the project, and act as a valuable forum for members to provide suggestions and ask questions on behalf of the people they represent.

“There will be one community and one business reference group each for Gungahlin, Dickson and Civic. Each of these six groups will be kept up-to-date on construction milestones and be consulted about potential impacts that residents and businesses could face, and have the opportunity to provide input into possible solutions.

“The introduction of business and community reference groups will complement the recently announced place managers program, which will be see Capital Metro staff located in localities along the light rail alignment.

“Capital Metro’s new Place Managers will be based locally in Gungahlin, Dickson and Civic, and a part of their role is to work closely with and support each of the community and business reference groups.

“Having a dedicated Place Manager for each of the three precincts is important as the interests and concerns for each reference group will be unique to their area and may have different ideas and suggestions for the project.

“The business and community reference groups will provide a valuable connection for the flow of information about the project between the ACT Government and the community. Members of these groups will play an integral role in the successful delivery of the first stage of light rail for Canberra.

Nominations close on Friday 31 July 2015. To register your interest visit capitalmetro.act.gov.au
