UC’s advertisement – trivial pursuits?

CONCERNED Members of the ACT Arts Community  have drawn “CityNews'” attention to a very strange advertisement by the University of Canberra on our city’s buses.

There doesn’t seem to be any need to dignify this with an elaborate defence of the role of arts in our society, but it should be pointed out that recent academic studies have proven without a doubt the role that the arts have to play in the intellectual development of young people.

As well, the benefits to the well-being of all those involved wherever music, drama and dance are given prominence, whether teachers, pupils or community members, are always manifest.

What purpose does such an advertisement fulfil?
