AMERICAN singing legend Kris Kristofferson is coming to town accompanied by country music band, The Strangers. Creator of hits such as “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Help Me Make It Through the Night”, he’s also a three-time Grammy winner, a Rhodes Scholar, and actor. “THE Champion”, set in the glossy world of professional, millionaire footballers, opens the Italian Film Festival at Palace Electric on September 24. Following the death of Bernardo Bertolucci in November, a highlight will be “1900”, the five-hour epic historical drama featuring actors such as Robert De Niro, Gérard Depardieu and Donald Sutherland, as well as Bertolucci’s political thriller “The Conformist”. THE tenth annual Come Alive Festival will be held a month earlier than usual in the Courtyard Studio of the Canberra Theatre Centre from September 24-27. ART-lovers were saddened by the abrupt closure of FORM Studio and Gallery in Queanbeyan just days before an exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Kate and Keith Bender was to open. The gallery has given eight years of service to local artists and was known to have been struggling.
