COMING up online as part of the Where You Are festival’s “Live in Ya Lounge” gig will be the Cherrypickers, headed by First Nations vocalist Monica Moore, along with the five-piece covers band, BlankStares, and the “Lying Cheating Bastards” trio, Damian Spencer, John Van Buuren and Jonathan Jones, performing blues originals, RnB, old Country and western swing. The performances will run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, this Friday, July 17. Accessible here. 

THIS week Canberra Symphony has kicked off with “Music and Memory”, a program designed to benefit people with dementia through live music. The program, which consists of 16 bi-weekly performances, was developed in collaboration with Heather Roche, a third-year Bachelor of Psychology student at UC, with oversight from Kristen Sutcliffe, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s bassoonist and practising audiologist.

“STRIKE a Chord”, the National Chamber Music Championship for high school students is up and running. Secondary school-aged ensembles from every corner of Australia are invited to apply here by August 27 for a chance to progress to the finals and be live-streamed on September 12. Cash prize for first is $5000, second is $4000 and third is $2500.

ROCHELLE Whyte or Adelaide Rief from the Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres’ programs team are leading an initiative called “Toolkit Chats”, where, during free one-on-one sessions, artists can ask questions and get access to tailored advice and recommendations on arts careers. FROM this Friday, July 17, Kambri at ANU is launching “Music on the Screens”, a series of virtual music events streaming free via Facebook from Manning Clark Hall, with party sets from ANU student DJs, singer/songwriters and bands filmed on stage with decks, lighting and an audio-visual shows. First up this week is “The Friday Funk” with Vessel Collective, Shad, Destiny and Mim.
