Eased restrictions see families flock to the theatre

“Room on the Broom”… was at Canberra Theatre Centre from October 1-3.

IN an extraordinary turnabout for the beleaguered Canberra Theatre Centre last weekend saw more than 4000 children and their families and friends at the theatre to watch performances of “Room on the Broom”.

Between  October 1 and 3, seven performances of “Room on the Broom” were staged in the Canberra Theatre, each with about 600 attendees in the 1200-seat theatre.

This return to 50 per cent capacity was facilitated by an exemption under the public health direction. And now, in light of the changes to capacity restrictions announced on Friday, October 2, and subject to the situation remaining stable into next week, Canberra Theatre Centre will be able to consistently operate at 50 per cent capacity from 9am this Friday, October 9, with the centre’s covid safety plans in operation.

Canberra Theatre Centre director Alex Budd said: “We look forward to further increasing our capacity as soon as it is safe to do so. This will allow us to bring larger-scale productions back to Canberra.”
