Gungahlin footy club helps police catch deceptive thief

GUNGAHLIN United Football Club (GUFC) has helped police charge a man who has obtained more than $112,000 worth of property through deception.

The thief, a 48-year-old Forde man, was alerted to police in early 2019 when he allegedly stole funds from the club’s bank account.

Since, club officials have assisted police with their investigation into the man, who was formerly associated with GUFC, and yesterday (February 5) police arrested him in his home in Forde.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on 109 counts of obtaining property by deception exceeding $112,000. Police believe the man acted alone.

Further charges are expected to be laid.
