Health Minister: Self-quarantine is a legal requirement

Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith.

THE ACT government will not hesitate to impose fines on anyone who breaks self-quarantine requirements, says Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith.

“If you are in any doubt, this is a legal requirement,” says Ms Stephen-Smith.

“There is a direction in place from our chief health officer, both in relation to self-quarantine for return travellers and in relation to self-isolation for those who have tested positive.

“We will not hesitate to enforce that if people have found to have breached that direction. But on a positive note, people have been cooperative so far and we hope that that kind of enforcement and imposing those fines will not be necessary.”

People must self-quarantine if they have COVID-19, have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, or returned from overseas in the past 14 days.
