Covid ‘disaster payments’ open next Friday

CANBERRANS who have had their work hours cut by eight hours or more as a result to the ACT’s seven-day lockdown announced this morning (August 12) could be eligible for “COVID-19 Disaster Payments”.

Application for the federal government payments will open on Friday, August 20, and applicants will be paid in arrears.

Payments for individuals include:

  • $750 per week if 20 or more hours of work have been lost;
  • $450 per week if between eight and less than 20 hours of work have been lost; and
  • $200 additional payment for individuals currently receiving an income support payment if they have lost eight hours or more of work.

Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja says the fastest and easiest way to claim these payments will be through myGov accounts.
