COVID fragments have been detected in the Yass sewage treatment plant, which serves about 6500 people.
Yass is only days out of lockdown and the NSW Sewage Surveillance Program, which tests untreated sewage for fragments of the COVID-19, has detected the fragments.
The NSW government says anyone living in the area should monitor for symptoms.
“If you have even the mildest of symptoms (even if it appears to be a cold), get tested and self-isolate immediately.,” it advises.
Yass was one of the regional NSW areas that have had no COVID-19 cases in the past fortnight and was released from lockdown at midnight on Friday (September 10).
However at the media announcement, NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro warned that stay-at-home orders could return if even one new local COVID-19 case was recorded.
