Person killed in Ngunnawal unit fire

A PERSON was found dead following a blaze that significantly damaged a Ngunnawal unit early this morning (August 11).

Firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire just after 12am but once the fire was out, the resident of the home remained unaccounted for.

A search of the premises, which was delayed due to concerns over the structural integrity of the building, located a body about 12.40pm.

The circumstances surrounding the fire will be investigated by police and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or have information about the fire, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website quoting reference number 6872967.
