Man charged with multi-unit fire in O’Connor

A 35-year-old man has been charged with arson following a fire in three home units in O’Connor early this morning (August 14).

Police report that no-one was inside the Moorhouse Street unit at the time of the midnight blaze and there were no reported injuries beyond several bystanders being treated for smoke inhalation.

Surrounding units were evacuated and residents only allowed to return hours later.

Emergency Services say firefighters from five stations were needed to suppress the fire that, at the height of the blaze, was burning in three of the eight-unit, two-storey complex.

Anyone with information should call 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
