Three arrests from parliament and Government House protests

THREE people were arrested for breaching health directions in two protests at Parliament House and Government House this morning (August 31).

Two vehicles were directed to leave the ACT and police expect to issue further infringements to individuals who participated today.

Meanwhile, police say they have have made 10,000 traffic compliance stops since the start of the covid lockdown at 5pm on August 12, with a daily average of more than 500 checks at border checkpoints and random locations across the ACT.

As a result 161 people have been directed to leave the ACT, and another 200 people have been issued with exclusion or return-home directions within the ACT.

Since the lockdown began, police say they have responded to more than 700 compliance complaints. They have assessed all complaints while continuing checks at more than 3000 residences and businesses in Canberra.

A total of 24 infringement notices and 46 cautions had been issued during the lockdown.
