80th covid death as hospitalisations hit new high

THE ACT has recorded its 80th covid-related death since the beginning of the pandemic as hospital numbers reached a new record.

ACT Health today (July 1) reports the woman who died was in her 80s.

There are now 138 people in Canberra hospitals with covid, a new record and a jump from the 122 recorded in yesterday’s figures.

Four people hospitalised are currently in the intensive care unit and one is on a ventilator.

There were also 1169 new cases of the virus recorded in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, 652 via PCR tests and 517 via RATs.

It brings the total active cases to 6876.
