Labor promises health clinic on election eve

IN a last ditch effort to secure votes, Labor has committed to building an urgent care clinic in Canberra’s south if it wins tomorrow’s (May 21) election.

Labor has already committed to 50 Medicare urgent care clinics to be built across the country, with the Federal ACT Labor team today (May 20) announcing that one of these clinics would be established on Canberra’s southside.

Labor Senator Katy Gallagher says the clinic is designed to ease pressure on hospitals.

“Canberrans have already embraced nurse-led walk-in centres across Canberra that provide families an alternative to waiting at the Emergency Department for treatment of urgent but non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses,” Ms Gallagher says.

“Medicare urgent care clinics will help to take the pressure off emergency departments, so the focus there can be on saving lives in emergencies.”

It’s unclear where the urgent care clinic would be built.
