Mandatory covid isolation scrapped in Canberra

ISOLATION periods for people who test positive to COVID-19 are no longer mandatory in the ACT, as of today (October 14).

However, ACT Health is strongly advising anyone with covid symptoms – runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever – should still stay at home and get tested.

Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said: “These new COVID-19 settings are part of a staged approach to managing COVID-19 in a similar way to other infectious diseases.

“Some public health measures will remain to help ensure we continue to protect those in our community who are most at risk of severe health outcomes from COVID-19.”

Other changes include no restrictions for household contacts, but monitoring for symptoms, wearing a mask on public transport and public indoor spaces, testing regularly and avoiding entering high risk settings is still recommended.

Ongoing requirements include reporting positive rapid antigen tests (RATs) to ACT Health as soon as possible, and face masks are to be worn by people aged 12-years and older when attending a high-risk setting.
