MOLONGLO’S new public school has been named after Indigenous rights activist Dr Evelyn Scott.

It is the first school in the ACT to be named after an Indigenous woman.

ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry officially named the senior and junior school campuses in Denman Prospect today (June 21) after the naming ceremonies were delayed during the pandemic.

Ms Berry said Evelyn Scott was a tremendous advocate for reconciliation and the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“I’m so pleased generations of students will now grow up learning about her incredible work,” said Ms Berry.

The $70 million senior campus will open next year, and will cater for 600 students.

The junior campus, which opened in 2021, caters for almost 690 students.

Another school with a meaningless name, designed to confuse the public about its location.
