Police move on illegal campers at Tent Embassy

UNAUTHORISED campers in parkland in front of Old Parliament House were moved on by police today (January 14).

The National Capital Authority requested police support to clear and secure the area on the lawns to the north-east of Old Parliament House to enable and support the commemorations planned by the Aboriginal Tent Embassy leading up to its 50th anniversary on January 26.

Camping on grounds in the Parliamentary precinct requires the approval of the National Capital Authority.  Police say that as of 5.30pm, no arrests had been made.
