Teen P-plater caught at twice speed limit

A TEENAGE P-plater driving at double the speed limit has copped more than $2200 in fines after being picked up early this morning.   

Police report that at about 12.30am today (October 29) a silver Toyota Corolla was detected at 121km/h in a 60km/h zone in Mitchell.

The car was pulled over and the 17-year-old driver produced a provisional licence. The vehicle also contained four passengers and was not displaying P-plates.

The driver received the following fines:
•    Exceed speed by more than 45km/h (non-school zone) – $1841 and six demerit points. 
•    Not display P-plate – $208. 
•    Contravene conditions of driver licence – $208.

As a result of his accumulated demerit points his licence will also be suspended for three months.

The ACT road toll for 2022 stands at 18 lives lost.
