Thousands of RBTs conducted in police crackdown

MORE than 2500 RBTs were conducted in Canberra over the long weekend (May 28-30) during a police crackdown on road safety.

Out of the tests conducted, five alcohol impaired drivers were identified.

Police also conducted 100 drug screening tests, of which six drivers returned positive results.

Police report there were also 48 infringement notices issued, as well as 13 cautions.

On Monday (May 30) police responded to reports at 1.50pm of a car that had collided with a light pole. The driver returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.123, more than double the legal 0.05 limit.

Detective Acting Superintendent Paul Hutcheson said these road safety enforcements are part of ACT Policing’s ongoing commitment to National Road Safety Week.

“We have seen fatalities this year because of poor driving behaviours. We are calling on all drivers to play their part in driving safely and making sure each and every road user gets home to their family and friends,” he said
