AMC detainee charged with family violence offences

The Alexander Maconochie Centre.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with family violence offences police allege he committed while remanded in the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC).

On February 8, the man was remanded in the AMC in relation to serious family and sexual violence offences, while he was also listed as the respondent of a Family Violence Order (FVO) on March 31.

A condition of this order is that the respondent is prohibited from contacting the protected person(s) unless and as agreed to by the director general.

Police allege that between August 22 – August 30, the man contravened the FVO by contacting protected persons via phone from the AMC. He has been charged with 10 counts of contravening a family violence order.

He is the fifth AMC detainee charged with family violence offences allegedly committed while on remand this year, following earlier incidents in June and July.
