Death in Dhulwa Mental Health Unit

WAJID Kakar, 37, has died at the Dhulwa Mental Health Unit in Symonston.

Wajid had appeared before the ACT Supreme Court on August 31, where the court entered special verdicts of not guilty by way of mental impairment for one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder in relation to an incident that occured in Page in February 2021.

On September 4, he was placed into the care of Dhulwa.

On the evening of September 8, police say Wajid suffered what appeared to be a medical episode and was declared dead in the early hours of September 9.

His death is being investigated by the ACT Coroner, and as the death is a death in custody, a hearing must be held at a future date.

To say someone had a medical episode is meaningless, aside from making it clear that the authorities do not wish to discuss the issue. What preceded the medical episode?
