NEW pedestrian crossings, wider footpaths and more plants are being installed to parts of popular Lonsdale Street, in Braddon.
Part of a Braddon streetscapes project, City Renewal Authority deputy CEO Craig Gillman said the work would make the area safer, easy to access and more enticing to visitors.
“From landscaping and street furniture to better pram and wheelchair access, the upgrades will encourage more people to enjoy Braddon’s retail shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants,” he said.
“It’s about enhancing Braddon as an eclectic, creative and inclusive hub in the city for the years to come.”
“Works will begin at southern end of Lonsdale Street, where we are adding new lighting, plants, paving and a centre median.
“This staged process will support local retailers and make sure Braddon stays open for business throughout construction.”
The Lonsdale Street upgrades include:
- a Girrawheen Street intersection upgrade featuring two pedestrian crossings, including one connecting Haig Park;
- two new mid-block pedestrian crossings on Lonsdale Street, including one north of the rainbow roundabout and one south of the rainbow roundabout and
- median works at the City Centre end of Lonsdale Street, near the Cooyong Street intersection.
New landscape elements will be installed at these locations, including new paving, plantings, lighting, street furniture, new bike racks and bins.
