Police swoop on main roads

POLICE  swooped on two of the major highways in and out of the ACT on Saturday issuing 23 infringement notices and cautions being issued for varying offences.

Between 9.30am and 11.30am, police conducted traffic targeting on the Monaro Highway at Royalla and Williamsdale, with subsequent targeting activity between 1pm and 3.30pm on the Kings Highway at Kowen. A total of 26 alcohol and 10 drug screening tests were conducted during these operations

The Monaro Highway activity identified a 32-year-old Griffith woman who was found to be driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle as an unaccompanied learner with two small children in the car.

Police say they were disappointed by the number of drivers who were either unaware of or ignored the 40km/h speed limit when going past stationary emergency service vehicles displaying blue and red flashing lights. Four drivers were issued infringement notices for this offence.
