Recidivist teen trio arrested for crime spree

TWO 14-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested over a series of burglaries, paywave offences and dangerous driving across Canberra.

On Tuesday, police received reports of two residential burglaries and one commercial burglary, in which credit cards, a silver Hyundai i30, a blue Isuzu ute and a white Hyundai Tucsan were stolen.

The credit cards were used in paywave offences throughout Canberra, and the vehicles failed to stop for police the following day.

Operation Toric located the suspected teens at a home in the Belconnen area.

On Wednesday afternoon, about 2.30pm, the two 14-year-old boys were arrested for their involvement, which put them in breach of existing bail conditions.

On of the boys has also been charged with possessing stolen property.

The 17-year-old boy was also arrested for paywave and vehicle offences.

Police say investigations are continuing into these offences and other similar offences throughout Canberra.

As we all know in the ACT the age of criminal responsibility will change soon to 12yrs old and then 14yrs by 2026.
So in the future many youths wont be referred to as ‘recidivists’ – because they wont even be charged in the first place.
I imagine it will make the statistics look like crime is going down and the politicians will pat themselves on the back – but the crime will certainly still be occurring.
