The Emerging Artists Support Scheme is now quite an institution at the ANU School of Art & Design, and its latest recipients were announced at the school’s Graduating Exhibition 2024.
Founded in 1988 by former art school director, David Williams, the EASS has grown over the past three decades with the support of individuals, businesses, galleries and organisations.
On hand for the announcements was Mark Parton, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, who, as part of the Assembly’s involvement in the scheme, chose two works that will be displayed in the Assembly building for a year, with a $500 grant going to each of those chosen students, Helen Heslop and Yvonne Poole.
Patrons of the uniquely Canberran scheme offer a variety of awards, also commissioning and acquiring new artworks, providing a boost the beginning of challenging independent careers, also bolstering the prominence of art and design in local regions.
